The Tale
Biography
Annrys is a six-piece folk metal band from the heart of Limburg, the Netherlands. Driven by flute, harmonica, twin guitars and growling bass, they sing fierce stories of living legends from their self-built fantasy world, brought to the stage in full character.
Founded in 2013 by Björn Gillissen and Jordan Duinkerken, the band set out to make music inspired by fantasy, Dungeons & Dragons, history and metal. Quincy Heynen joined on drums and Falco Gillissen on harmonica and flute, and after a few changes in the early years Debbie Duijzings completed the low end on bass guitar.
In 2019 the band rebranded as Annrys and opened a new chapter, which culminated in their debut album Under The Northern Lights. In 2024 the line-up shifted once more: Jason Dool took over as frontman, Quincy moved from drums to guitar, and Bart Wilmsen arrived on drums, completing the current crew.
What sets Annrys apart is the world behind the music. Every band member performs as a character from the realm of Annrys, a fantasy world with its own map, regions and history, spanning the frozen north of Grimr, the realm of Karawyn and the pirate havens of Pirata. Concerts are not just gigs but chapters of an ongoing saga.
